After Jack Swagger lost the ECW Championship to Christian, his career stalled a bit. He was unable to wrest the title back from his foe, and though he was drafted to Raw in mid-2009, he didn't fare much better there. He spent the fall trying to win the United States Title from Kofi Kingston, but ultimately failed.

At WrestleMania 26, he shot back up the card with one of the least expected victories in WrestleMania history. At the show, Swagger stunned onlookers by capturing the Money in the Bank briefcase, and, two days later on SmackDown, he cashed in on Chris Jericho to become World Heavyweight Champion.

Unfortunately, Swagger's victory wasn't something the company had planned for. Originally, office favorite Drew McIntyre was supposed to go over in the MITB batch, but a public argument between McIntyre and then-wife Taryn "Tiffany" Terrell resulted in disciplinary action against the Scottish star.

Swagger got his push, his briefcase, and his title, but during his reign, it was clear that WWE was anything but committed to his success.
