10 Things You Didn't Know About Jay Lethal
7. His Title Reign Has Lasted More Than 6 Times Longer Than CM Punk's
Speaking of CM Punk, his record as ROH World Champion oddly isn't as prolific as some wrestling fans not in the know may assume. In fairness to the man, he had already agreed terms with WWE before even winning the title, meaning a June 18, 2005 victory over Austin Aries raised some eyebrows.
That win came at ROH's Death Before Dishonor III event, but Punk would only hold the title for 55 days before dropping it to James Gibson during a 4-way match also involving Samoa Joe and Christopher Daniels. After that, Punk was pretty much out of the promotion, embarking on a career that needs little introduction over in WWE.
Incredibly however, his 55 day reign has been topped - in terms of sheer length - around 6 times by the one Jay Lethal currently enjoys. Naturally, title length isn't always a barometer of quality, but it definitely is in this instance.
Whilst Punk's short stint with the gold was meaningful from a storyline perspective, he never got to have the brilliant series of matches Lethal has as champion. In a company like Ring Of Honor, that means much more.
