According to Marc Mero, Dusty Rhodes was somebody who rarely raised his voice when discussing ideas with him. The legend was calm and collected, albeit very passionate about getting a lot of effort from wrestlers in return for his support.

In 1992, Mero was riding with Van Hammer on the road a lot, and the pair were getting themselves into some trouble. Using cocaine heavily and living a party lifestyle, the pair were raising the ire of WCW management.

The contract Mero signed in '91 had called for a substantial raise in salary during his second year, but he wasn't taking his job entirely seriously.

Again, Rhodes called Mero into his office, and this time it wasn't positive. The wrestler had missed a show, and Dusty was concerned about the way he had been acting. The Dream bluntly told Marc that he had made him, but he could also break him.

This was basically a warning shot from the booker that Mero had to start shaping up fast.
