At SummerSlam 1996, Marc Mero faced Goldust in a mid-card match which had some potential. Both men knew each other from WCW, so they were friendly and determined to have a good bout. Whilst planning the action, Goldust was stunned to learn of Mero's plans for one of the big spots in the match.

Known in the WWF as the 'Wild Thing', Mero wanted to perform a Shooting Star Press from the top rope onto his peer. Goldust was naturally hesitant, wondering if it was a good idea for Marc to attempt such a move on one of the biggest pay-per-views of the year.

Mero was determined, and he had been practicing the stunt at a local high school gym close by. Remarkably, he never actually performed it inside the ring before SummerSlam. In his own words, this was a stupid idea, because had he botched it Vince McMahon would have been furious with him.
