Despite being a big name in the company, CM Punk only held the ROH World Title once. His reign may have only been 55 days in length, but it remains one of the most notable in Ring Of Honor history. At the time of winning the title, Punk had already committed to signing with WWE.

At Death Before Dishonor III in 2005, Punk defeated Austin Aries to become ROH World Champion. On his way out, he ran a storyline during which he threatened to take the belt to WWE's developmental system with him.

Naturally, that angered the ROH fan base, who were nonetheless split over seeing such a talent leave the promotion.

One segment had Punk actually signing his developmental deal with WWE on the ROH World Title. It was a stirring story, designed to paint Punk as someone who felt he was above the top championship in Ring Of Honor.

Before leaving, Punk dropped the title to James Gibson in a 4-way encounter that August. There were tears following his last match against Colt Cabana, but it's incredible to think CM Punk's very first WWE contract was signed on ROH's top prize.
