When looking at the factors that spiked the pro wrestling boom of the Monday Night Wars, many will rightfully cite Scott Hall's shock appearance on WCW TV on 27 May 1996 as one of the most important, impactful moments of that era.

Of course, Hall would turn up and proclaim himself as an "outsider", soon bring in Kevin Nash at his side, and then we would get the formation of the New World Order at Bash of the Beach that July. What some may not be aware of, was that this was not Scott Hall's first spell under the WCW banner.

Prior to signing with WWF in 1992, Hall had spent a year in WCW as the Diamond Studd. A cocksure villain, the Diamond Studd very much pulled inspiration from 'Ravishing' Rick Rude, and the character was essentially the prototype for what Razor Ramon would eventually become.

As the Diamond Studd, Scott was managed by his close buddy Diamond Dallas Page as part of Page's Diamond Mine stable. Who else would also become a part of that group? Why, that'd be a certain Vinnie Vegas, aka Kevin Nash.

Even before this stint in WCW, though, Scott Hall had an even earlier, briefer run with World Championship Wrestling. Back in 1989, Scott 'Gator' Hall was brought into the NWA/WCW as part of a company initiative to sign and develop young stars. Joined by the likes of Brian Pillman and Sid Vicious as part of this initiative, Hall would lose against big-name stars like the Great Muta and Terry Funk before departing the promotion in November of that year.
