8. His College Wrestling Theme Music...
One more point about Benjamin’s University days—and it’s
probably the greatest of the lot.
Appearing on Talk is Jericho last October, Benjamin let us in to a little secret from his days of competing on the mat. He revealed that he and his teammates had actually been allowed to choose their own individual theme music to be played ahead of their matches. Just like in the world of professional wrestling.
Of course, unlike in the WWE, it seems the University of Minnesota didn’t have to worry about infringing on copyrights, because Benjamin selected the Undertaker’s theme song for his own personal entrance—tolling bell and all.
Now, I had the privilege of witnessing first-hand the Undertaker’s entrance once, albeit it on a low-key episode of SmackDown on a European tour, and I’ll be the first to admit that it was a fairly intimidating experience.
But without the smoke, the lighting, and the ominous blue hue—not to mention being played in a University gymnasium—I’m not sure this choice of entrance music would have had quite the same effect…
