9. Harlem Heat Were Originally Called 'The Ebony Experience'
I had serious reservations about putting that into google search. Before becoming Harlem Heat in WCW, Stevie Ray and his brother went by the name The Ebony Experience. They were on TV too, for the Global Wrestling Federation (not to be confused by new wrestling 'powerhouse', Global Force Wrestling) that was shown on ESPN. The GWF was ran out of Dallas, Texas (as in it was based there, not it was chased out) starting in 1991, and eventually folded in 1994. It had the honour of being the last wrestling promotion shown frequently on ESPN, and also featured such stars as Cactus Jack, Kerry Von Erich, Barry Horowitz and Sweet Daddy Falcone. One of those doesn't have a Wikipedia page. The Ebony Experience were three-time GWF tag champions, defeating the Goodfellows, The Blackbirds and The Bad Breed for their three runs. They were the only team to win the belts three times, with their final run coming to an end at the hands of the Sicilian Stallions, who were made up of Vito Mussolini and that damn Falcone.
Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
