10 Things You Didn't Know About The Four Horsemen

8. Ground Zero For Wrestling Stables

The Four Horsemen are widely considered to be one of the best stables in the history of professional wrestling, maybe even the best. When the group was at its strongest it is difficult to disagree; all four members were top-level talents, while the stable continually made babyfaces and sold masses of tickets along the way. When it comes to wrestling factions, The Four Horsemen are the gold standard.

Groups of wrestlers banding together for a common goal wasn't invented by the Horsemen but the group were the first major faction to become established in the mainstream, the first to make factions cool, so to speak. Ever since Flair, Tully and the Andersons made it cool, wrestling promotions have been desperately trying to capture that lightning. They have rarely succeeded.

The Undisputed Era and Evolution are the two major success stories but the set-up of the Horsemen has been replicated time and time again, all the way down to the components that make up the stable. You'll have the centrepiece, the heir apparent, the enforcer and the muscle, guaranteed. The Inner Circle is another excellent modern example.

Who will play those roles in AEW? Time will tell, but there are plenty of contenders for each spot. Either way, the legacy of The Four Horsemen seems set to get a new branch.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
