10 Things You Didn't Know About WWE In 1990

9. Randy Savage Was Accidentally Announced As WWF Champion At A House Show

In the fall of 1990, Ultimate Warrior defended his WWF Championship against Macho King Randy Savage on the house show circuit. The two would trade victories, but each time that Savage won, it would be by count out, meaning that Warrior wouldn't lose the championship. On November 1, 1990, the WWF's live event circuit made its way to Salt Lake City, Utah. For the main event, they had a local disc jockey act as guest ring announcer. On this night, Savage won the match by count out. The unnamed DJ accidentally announced that Savage was the new WWF Champion. After this, Warrior took the DJ and gave him a clothesline, legitimately busting his lip open. It's unclear whether this was planned (most likely, it wasn't), and surprising that Warrior wasn't punished for his actions.
