10 Things You Didn't Know About WWE In 1992
7. Survivor Series Featured A WWF First
Ready for more company firsts? You got it.
Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels from Survivor Series 1992 is almost a "lost" scrap between both legends. Naturally, because of some backstage shenanigans that have only been mentioned once or twice since, the 1997 pay-per-view is discussed more often. That's a shame, because their '92 clash is a tidy little gem.
It was also the first ever company pay-per-view headliner to end with a submission result. It's true. Bret made Shawn submit to the Sharpshooter in a refreshing workhorse-style main, and that marked the first time anyone had ever submitted to close a WWF supershow. The more you know, eh?
Here's another interesting tidbit: Michaels had asked Bret to slow down in-ring, 'cause HBK didn't think he could keep pace for the bout's full duration if Hart went hell-for-leather. Shawn clearly wanted to put in a good showing, so Bret obliged and paced himself.
Soon, that wouldn't be an issue for Michaels.
