4. Lex Luger Wasn’t Hired To Wrestle

A lot of folks know Lex Luger got his WWF start as part of Vince McMahon’s WBF, but he was legit hired as a bodybuilder not a wrestler. At first, Luger was meant to be exclusive to the WBF as a top name/marquee attraction, but things changed before they could properly begin.

Lex suffered serious injuries following a horrific motorcycle accident, and the WBF had folded by the time he was healthy again. Pivoting, McMahon convinced Luger to do some wrasslin' after all. Remarkably, despite never being in the running for a WWF roster spot at all, Lex ended up being one of Vince's biggest stars throughout 1993 and 1994.

Nobody behind the scenes saw that coming when he inked a deal in '92.

The WWF might've been fooling themselves, but they genuinely viewed Luger as the face of their new bodybuilding offshoot. All hopes for that were dashed by his injuries and the WBF's miserable (and rapid) decline.
