10 Things You Didn't Know About WWE In 2003

2. WWE Were Considering Rehiring The LOD

The Legion of Doom/Road Warriors made a surprise return to Raw on May 12th, announced by Eric Bischoff as the mystery tag team that would be challenging Rob Van Dam and Kane for the World Tag Team Championships. The LOD came out to a monster pop, but the enthusiasm wouldn't last. The WWE were actually considering hiring Hawk and Animal, both of whom were hoping to secure full-time employment with the company. Unfortunately, Hawk and Animal entered a performance so shoddy that plans for their rehiring were immediately scrapped. Management were not impressed by their showing, at all. In particular, they were miffed at Hawks' no-sell job after he had absorbed a Five Star Frog Splash. Hawk died several months later in October and Animal was hired in 2005 for a run with Heidenreich. The Road Warriors/Legion of Doom may be one of the best tag teams of all time, but they were totally past it by the time 2003 rolled around and WWE were right not to offer them contracts.
