10 Things You Didn't Know About WWE In 2004

9. Maven Was Supposed To Become A Member Of Evolution

Things looked really bright for Maven in 200. After recovering from knee surgery and improving his physique, WWE decided to go ahead and give him a push. After a couple of years languishing in the midcard and on weekend shows like Heat, it must have been music to his ears. WWE had high hopes for Maven, who had a natural charisma and athleticism. He started getting a decent push in late 2004 and earned a spot on the babyface side at the Survivor Series. Unfortunately, he never made it to the match, as he was attacked backstage by Snitsky. Still, his team won (Randy Orton was the sole survivor) and, as per the stipulation, each member of the team would get one week as General Manager of Raw. Maven chose his week to book himself versus Triple H for the World Heavyweight Championship. Although unsuccessful, Maven looked good in the match. Before the match, Triple H offered Maven a spot in Evolution if he backed out of the match. There had been rumours for a while that Maven was due to join the stable in 2004, but it never happened. Instead, WWE turned him heel and teamed him with Simon Dean. It was a huge step down, obviously. For a month or two it looked like WWE was going to do something with Maven. He was released from his contract on July 5th, 2005.
