10 Things You Didn't Know About WWE In 2009

4. Vince McMahon Offered To Fight Frank Shamrock Backstage At WrestleMania XXV

Vince McMahon is known for the size of his, ahem, grapefruits. So it shouldn't come as any great surprise that he said that he would fight a former UFC star at the biggest wrestling event of the year. Although it wouldn't be in a match or anything of that nature. No, Vince said he would fight Frank Shamrock, former UFC Middleweight Champion, after an altercation between Chris Jericho and Mickey Rourke. Y2J and Randy 'The Ram' had a bit of a misunderstanding over the promotion of their 'Mania XXV clash (which was cancelled and changed to a 3-on-1 handicap legends match instead), resulting in the two almost coming to blows. Rourke was offended by some remarks Jericho had made about him in a promo and wanted to legitimately beat The Highlight of the Night up. So much so that he hired a couple of bodyguards and brought an entourage with him specifically in case things didn't go according to plan. Jericho and Rourke sorted out their differences and mended fences during the planning of their spot. Jericho then relayed the incident to his boss, who had a hilarious answer. From Jericho's third autobiography, Best in the World:
Vince stared down the rampway at Rourke's gang. "Are you kidding me? Those guys?!" He laughed. He motioned at Dean Malenko and Fit Finlay, who were talking at ringside. "You, me, Finlay, and Malenko would've beat the shit out of them. I mean look at that one guy. . . . He's a midget!" The "midget" Vince was referring to was Shamrock, the multiple-time UFC champion. I smiled at Vince and said, "Well, if anything goes down, I'll take Rourke and you take the midget." "Damn right I will," he murmured and swaggered out of the ring.
God bless Vince McMahon.
