Despite signing a bunch of indie darlings and basically booking the internet's dream promotion in NXT, Triple H is still a polarising figure. Some haven't forgiven him for his seemingly selfish behaviour, particularly his 2002-03 run where he (allegedly) buried Booker T, Chris Jericho and Rob Van Dam. British wrestling magazine Power Slam had the nerve to ask Triple H about this practice in an October 2009 interview. Interviewer Danny Flexen asked The Game 'What do you say to those who accuse you of zealously safeguarding your position at the top of the card and refusing to help elevate wrestlers to the main event level?'. Triple H's answer was something else. The Cerebral Assassin offered:
All the stars are at a certain level. You can't make someone a star by simply bringing other stars down. That's not how the business works; it's not how it's ever worked. The new stars have to rise on their own. What big star ever laid down for me?
What big star ever laid down for him? Well, while Triple H was ascending to the summit of the WWE mountain there were plenty of high-profile stars who did jobs for him, including The Rock and Mick Foley. It was an absurd comment from Triple H, one which caused quite a stir on message boards.
