10. Shawn Michaels Wanted To Wrestle Vince McMahon In 2002
Shawn Michaels' comeback match against Triple H at SummerSlam 2002, after four years out of the ring following major back surgery, was a revelation. Looking like he hadn't been out of the ring a day, HBK put on a flawless performance, in what was the best match of the evening and one of WWE's best matches of the year. Oh, how different it could have been. Michaels originally wanted to wrestle Vince McMahon on the show, because he wasn't sure if he could still go like he could in his mid-90s prime and knew that, in a match with Vince, there'd be no expectation on him to steal the show. The storyline was going to be that Michaels was coming out of retirement to teach Vince a lesson for putting guys at risk and demanding that they push themselves until they became injured. This was just after Michaels' nWo buddy Nash went down with a torn quad, so it made sense. However, when Vince got wind that HBK was fit enough to work a match, he suggested that he do it with Triple H instead. Michaels, while initially reluctant, finally agreed and the two tore the house down.
