8. He Joked About Bringing A Chainsaw To The Ring
Dutch Mantell was a true standout during his wrestling years. Even though he wasn't the biggest guy with the best physique he found other ways to get noticed. His laid back persona and look were developed to be as unique to himself as possible. Mantell picked up the "Dirty" nickname in Puerto Rico and added the hat and bullwhip around that time. He prided himself especially of the bullwhip and was taken aback when he saw contemporaries copying the prop. During a 1993 interview with Wade Keller of the Pro Wrestling Torch Newsletter he mentioned that he had seen bullwhips carried by Bill Irwin, Black Bart, and even Nick Bockwinckel on one occasion. "I thought of changing my deal, going to the ring with a chainsaw. Then, see if others followed going to the ring with a chainsaw themselves," said Dutch. While the chainsaw comment should be taken as an exaggeration it does highlight how much he prided himself for never being a carbon copy of anyone else.
