For six solid months, Beth Phoenix reigned supreme over the Divas division as its champion. It seemed as if no one could put an end to her dominant Divas Championship run before Nikki Bella randomly did.

On the April 23, 2012 edition of Raw, Phoenix put her title up for grabs in a match against Nikki, who beat her in non-title action one week earlier on SmackDown. Only a few weeks away from breaking Maryse's record as the longest reigning champion in history, it was assumed that she'd soundly steamroll through the twin sister, but that didn't end up being the case.

Capitalizing off the injured knee of The Glamazon, Nikki quickly pinned her to win the title to the surprise of the audience. A rematch was scheduled to take place that Sunday at Extreme Rules, but with Phoenix still out hurt, it was announced Nikki would face a mystery opponent instead.

It was only fitting that Kharma be the one to take the title from the girls she threatened to exact revenge on one year earlier, but shockingly enough, it was Layla who accepted the open challenge, beating Nikki within minutes to capture the gold.

The Chicago crowd gave Layla a generous reaction for her big championship win, but you know deep down they were disappointed it wasn't who they desperately wanted it to be.
