CM Punk grew stale as a babyface early on in his career, but once he finally flipped the switch in the summer of 2009, he was gold. As an ego-maniacal heel preaching that straight edge was the right way to live, he really came into his own, especially as the leader of the Straight Edge Society cult faction.

With Luke Gallows and Serena serving as his "followers," Punk led the SES to prominence on SmackDown for the better part of 2010. Eventually, their first major roadblock came that spring when they engaged in a feud with Rey Mysterio.

At WrestleMania 26, Mysterio successfully beat Punk to ensure he didn't have to join the group, but despite his win, their feud was far from over. The next month at Extreme Rules, they met in a rematch, this time where Punk's hair was on the line if he lost.

Halfway though the bout, Gallows and Serena were ejected from ringside, leaving the Straight Edge Savior to fend for himself. However, while the referee was distracted, a faceless figure emerged from underneath the ring and attacked Mysterio at ringside, later leading to Punk winning the match.

It'd be another three months before we'd find out that the masked man was Joey Mercury, who hadn't been seen in WWE for nearly three years. He is currently one-half of J&J Security.
