10 Things You Learn Binge Watching Every WWE Attitude Era Raw
7. Austin Vs. McMahon = SummerSlam 1998?!
Steve Austin and Vince McMahon (kinda) wrestled their first match on the 13 April '98 Raw. It was more of an angle than a proper match, but it did reveal something: WWF fans were red hot for the thought of 'Stone Cold' putting the boss in his place. Somebody should've suggested then and there that they headline a major pay-per-view.
Why not? Wrestling had taken a backseat that year anyway.
SummerSlam would've been the ideal place to make it happen. By August, people were foaming at the mouth to see Austin turn McMahon into mush, and Madison Square Garden would've relished the chance to see a match like that. Instead, the WWF went for a shockingly bland babyface vs. babyface effort between Austin and The Undertaker.
That failed to satisfy. Looking back over the entire 'Attitude Era' makes it clear that a one-on-one Austin vs. McMahon bout should've happened on pay-per-view long before St. Valentine's Day Massacre in 1999. They missed a golden chance at SummerSlam.
