10 Things You Learn From Watching 1990 On The WWE Network

7. Some Saturday Night's Main Event Matches Were As Good As PPV Fare

Across the year of 1990, the WWF ran four different Saturday Night's Main Event shows to complement their pay-per-view and television output. These specials had began in 1985 on NBC, delivering prime time viewing for wrestling fans who probably didn't get enough content in that era.

Most notable was the fact that these programs were shorter than pay-per-views, but longer than the regular TV shows at that time. They also provided fans with the chance to see PPV quality bouts in a period when they were at a premium on television. A perfect example of that is the first Saturday Night's Main Event match from 1990 between Jim Duggan and Randy Savage.

Airing on January 27, 1990, the special started with a bang when Duggan and Savage locked horns. Not everything on each of these cards could be presented as top quality, there were some really short matches, but there are some hidden gems in there.

Following up on Duggan vs. Savage was an excellent scrap between The Hart Foundation and The Rockers on the April 23 edition.
