Competing for the WWF Heavyweight Title, Randy Savage and The Ultimate Warrior were positioned in the mid card during SummerSlam. Before the main event, Tatanka defeated The Berzerker and then The Undertaker hammered Kamala. Both those popular wins set the stage for a proper old-school wrestling match between Bret Hart and Davey Boy Smith.

The British Bulldog was treated like a homecoming hero by the UK crowd, but Smith was struggling with the pressure. Back then, this wasn't too noticeable, but Hart wrote candidly about the situation in his autobiography. Due to that, it becomes more visible that Bret is the one carrying much of the work load during the Intercontinental Title headliner.

Still, the Canadian did the honours and allowed Bulldog to shine in his home country. Without doubt, Hart vs. Smith is a wonderful match, but it becomes even more impressive when taking into account the Brit's nerves and lack of cardiovascular conditioning.

Some fans believe Hart has an inflated opinion of himself, but he's 100% right when talking up SummerSlam '92 as one of his greatest ever performances.
