10 Things You Miss About NXT Wrestlers On WWE's Main Roster
1. Shinsuke Nakamura's Star Aura
There's a great chance that Shinsuke Nakamura will be crowned WWE Champion at SummerSlam this weekend, and it'll likely go down as one of the year's biggest moments. An immensely popular superstar, 'The King Of Strong Style' is one of the most charismatic wrestlers on the planet, and he'll be succeeding one of the most maligned top champions in recent WWE history.
That being said, Nakamura's main roster run hasn't been entirely smooth. He needlessly went 50/50 with Dolph Ziggler in his initial SmackDown feud, and hasn't consistently delivered in the ring, his excellent TV main event with John Cena aside. More importantly, the pitfalls of weekly episodic television have drained his superstar aura to the point where he often feels like just another guy, and that's a problem.
NXT's short, one-hour shows protected Nakamura's star power. He didn't need to be used every week, so there was no risk of over-saturation. Showing up once a fortnight or so helped keep his appearances special, preserving his value as a superstar, and ensuring nobody got burned out on him.
This is no longer the case. Now, Nakamura is on our screens for lengthier spells almost every week, and while his popularity endures, he no longer feels like a special attraction. He's overexposed, but such is life when you have so much airtime to fill.
