10 Things You Need To Know About Chris Jericho's New Book

2. The 2008 Feud With Shawn Michaels Was Special

The best feud of Jericho's career took place in 2008 when he was involved in a storyline with the legendary Shawn Michaels. Jericho thinks it's one of the best feuds ever. I agree with him. It really was the kind of story that we wish we could see more often, but we also realize that it's hard to strike gold the way they did. Jericho noted that the original plan for the angle was to have one PPV match and end it there. Jericho had just turned heel after calling Michaels a hypocrite post WrestleMania 24 in 2008. It likely was going to lead to a match that Michaels won. Then that was it. Instead, they found a way to make it entertaining. Jericho went in detail about how he thought they could take it another level when he tossed Michaels into the Jeritron 5000 on the "Highlight Reel" set and he was right. It worked. He noted that they fixed the glass so it was breakable and that Michaels sold it perfectly. The other key moment in the feud was at SummerSlam 2008 when Jericho accidentally punched Shawn's wife Rebecca in the face. It was supposed to happen, but Jericho was apprehensive about it. They practiced it a few times earlier, but when it happened live Jericho felt like he hit her too hard. He was genuinely concerned for her although on screen he had to show no remorse. When they went backstage, Jericho was apologizing to Shawn and Shawn was furious with him, but Rebecca smiled and said "is that all you got?" then they all laughed about it. Even though Jericho felt like he really hurt her, she was okay with it. Their feud culminated in a terrific Ladder Match for Jericho's World Title at No Mercy in October 2008. McMahon felt the feud warranted the World Title, so they took it off CM Punk and put it on Jericho in order to have that Ladder Match that was arguably the best match of Jericho's career. The detail that Jericho goes into involving the intricacies of the feud are phenomenal. He writes about it in great detail, which is what you should get out of a guy's book talking about his life. They were supposed to feud for one month, yet it was so great that it went seven months and Jericho became the best wrestler alive because of it. Jericho is right when he says they should make a DVD covering the entire storyline. It would really be something special.
