10 Things You Need To Know About Chris Jericho's New Book

4. Vince McMahon Really Doesn't Want Blood On His Shows

There are two very detailed stories that Jericho tells where he mentions how much Vince McMahon was against blood. It happened after a bloody match with Jericho and Shawn Michaels in the summer of 2008 where things got really messy. At the time, WWE was transitioning into a PG company. With sponsors and shareholders to answer to, McMahon told his talent that there would be no more blood on his shows. The first blood story involves a steel cage match with Jericho and Batista in November 2008. As Jericho tells the story, Batista wanted to add some color to the match to make it more interesting. Remember that Batista has always been vocal about WWE being soft when they went PG, so it makes sense that he wanted to be "old school" a bit. He ended up blading in the match. A week later, Jericho and Batista were summoned to a meeting by Vince McMahon that also involved agent Dean Malenko. McMahon showed video of a camera hidden high up in the area that showed that Batista clearly bladed. Batista got fined $100,000 for it while Jericho and Malenko also got fined $5,000. Batista ended up paying their fines for them. It showed that McMahon was serious about it. The other blood story involved Ric Flair in the buildup to Jericho's WrestleMania 25 match in 2009 against the legends. Jericho had a Raw segment with him where he beat him up. Flair wasn't a full timer in WWE, so he probably had no idea about the no blood rule. He ended up blading and his blood was everywhere. Jericho worked on the cut by punching at it as well as hitting him with a camera. After the segment, McMahon was furious at him and ended up fining him for it. He said he couldn't fine Flair because Flair wasn't under a full time contract and he was worried how Flair might react. Jericho was upset by it because it was the second time somebody bled in a segment he was in and it wasn't even him that did it, yet he was still fined for it. A lot of fans wonder why there's never blood in WWE. Read Jericho's book. You'll get a better understanding of McMahon's mindset about it. It makes sense from his perspective even though as fans we wouldn't mind seeing a little bit of "juice" once in a while.
