10 Thrown Together WWE Tag Teams That Didn't Really Work

5. Hardcore Holly & Billy Gunn

Hardcore Holly may very well be the king of throwaway tag teams. His 15-year tenure with the company seemed to be choc-full of random pairings, whether it was his first championship win with the 1-2-3 Kid or his last with Cody Rhodes. In between Holly teamed with Bart Gunn as the New Midnight Express, with Al Snow as the JOB Squad and many others.

He also teamed with Billy Gunn, himself no stranger to random thrown together tag teams, in 2004. The duos only chemistry seemed to come from their hair colour and choice of wrestling gear, and needless to say their pairing didn't last very long at all. Still, it lasted long enough to gain a tag title shot, where they were unsuccessful against Charlie Haas & Rico at Judgement Day 2004.

Hardcore Holly would continue to work in tag competition throughout 2004, ending his PPV year in a loss against the Basham Brothers at Armageddon. His partner that night?

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
