10 Times AEW Took It Too Far

9. Sammy Guevara Brains Matt Hardy

In the interest of balance, it should probably be noted that Sammy Guevara has otherwise enjoyed a stellar breakthrough run in AEW thus far - because he's the focal point of much of this list.

He was piss funny as the heartthrob brat of the Inner Circle, and his smarmy face was so detestable that he could get away with working an electrifying, crazed ring style. He set the standard of how a mainstream unknown could get over on national TV by latching onto every opportunity, even those that he seemed locked out from. Most wrestlers do very little in picture-and-picture; where they allow your eyes to glaze over, Guevara made you pay attention and squint with his creative cue cards schtick.

He's also prone to moments of idiocy - like that time he couldn't find the planted prop chair and thought "F*ck it, I'll just grab whatever's handy and hope for the best".

In August 2020, in a cursed moment in a cursed timeline, Guevara stitched Hardy up proper by launching an actual steel chair with some speed into Hardy's temple. Hardy juiced a gusher and quite understandably read the riot act to Guevara backstage, per Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live.

Reckless behaviour, it was also unnecessary; the show was taped, and Guevara could have yelled cut instead of actually cutting Hardy disgustingly deep.
