10 Times AEW Took It Too Far

8. Sammy Guevara Endangers Himself This Time

Wrestling is all about escalation, which often isn't ideal, since it never bloody stops and the accepted standard for insane stunts was set all the way back in 1998. Even as pure wrestling is restored in parallel with the stunt show - look at how little CM Punk and Dax Harwood did, but how much they got out of it - doing something outrageous is a guaranteed pop.

And now, somewhat unhelpfully, a guaranteed GIF in the Twitter era. More people are going to GIF a 630 senton off a ladder than Punk just barely feigning to sweep the leg as Dax withdraws just as quickly as he steams ahead.

Sammy Guevara lit up the internet with his perfectly timed cutter to Cody Rhodes at Beach Break in January. The jump from turnbuckle to ladder to ladder was both supernaturally impressive and a spot of strategic quick-thinking in a match that nailed the intent-to-win tone. Guevara felt he had to out-do himself, and subverting the spot by taking a mid-air cutter wasn't enough for him, and so, at the midway point, he attempted a 630 senton off the top of the ladder.

He took it too far and very nearly badly hurt himself; with so little room to properly rotate, and moving too quickly for a smooth catch, he was lucky enough to land on his shoulder and not the crown of his head.
