Contrary to many of the other matches featured in this list, AJ Styles meeting with Kevin Steen (now Kevin Owens) was fairly recent. It took place at House of Hardcore 5, the promotion started by Tommy Dreamer. The show took place in the summer of 2014, when AJ had just started his run on New Japan (he had already captured the IWGP Heavyweight Title) and Steen was slowly coming to the end of his run on the independent scene. As New Japan's top title is one of the most protected in wrestling it is no surprise that AJ came out on top, but the match really showed off Steen's natural heel demeanour. The match was the main event of the night, a status befitting two of the finest performers of a generation. Out of all the matches on the list, this is one I expect to see once again when Styles finally makes it to WWE.
