10 Times Classical Music Was Used In Wrestling

9. The British Bulldog - Rule, Britannia! (Thomas Arne)

Unlike Michaels, classical music was the perfect selection for the The British Bulldog. In a period where wrestling minds (read: Vince McMahon) could not conceive a gimmick for a foreign national besides an ultra-patriotic evil heel or an ultra-patriotic heroic babyface, Davey Boy Smith was bedecked in a Union Flag, and given a British flag. And regrettably, a dog. It worked; Bulldog sent the popularity of the WWF through the roof in the UK. As an ambassador for the product in ol' Blighty, there was only one suitable choice of entrance music for Smith: Thomas Arne's yearningly jingoistic 'Rule, Britannia!'. The song, a celebration of Britain's imperial might, was the perfect complement to the powerhouse, fully epitomising the Bulldog's bold, brave persona. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bd6sJMymYmo

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
