10 Times CM Punk Disrespected WWE
1. The Art Of Wrestling Podcast
It was the podcast that changed wrestling. So much has happened since CM Punk’s history-changing appearance on Colt Cabana’s Art of Wrestling podcast, both in WWE and the wider wrestling world. It revolutionised the wrestling podcast business and gave performers everywhere a new platform from which to sell their brand. Without this chart-busting episode, that might not have happened.
Punk appeared on the podcast 10 months after walking out of WWE. It had been nothing but radio silence from Punk in between, leaving wrestling fans around the world with a myriad of questions as they held onto hope that maybe, just maybe, a return to the squared circle was possible. Punk’s appearance on the Art of Wrestling put the kibosh on all of that.
And how! Punk ripped WWE from pillar to post during the interview, laying bare the ills of a toxic corporation that put profit and politics before its performers. No punches were pulled as Punk told story after story that made Vince McMahon, Triple H and WWE look like a bunch of bumbling idiots, obliterating the credibility of the company’s medical team in the process.
The whole thing was incredibly disrespectful, of course, it was, but it was thrilling, revolutionary and absolutely necessary. Punk had been disrespected by WWE, so what point was there in holding back? The Voice of the Voiceless is one of pro wrestling’s great talkers, and his story is proof if proof were needed that disrespect can mean a lot of different things, depending on context and circumstance.
