10 Times CM Punk Disrespected WWE

10. Bitterness Towards The Miz

CM Punk has never been particularly secretive about his desire to main event WrestleMania. That is the pinnacle of the wrestling business, after all, no matter the creative stupor that WWE currently finds itself in. Punk never realised that ambition, and for many, he will go down in history as the greatest WWE superstar to never headline the Showcase of the Immortals.

The Miz headlined WrestleMania XXVII, defending his WWE Championship against John Cena, and Punk has been very vocal about how frustrating this was for him. Punk voiced his displeasure on the WWE-produced ‘Best in the World’ documentary, describing Miz’s position as one of ‘so many straws that broke the proverbial camel’s back’.

Should CM Punk have headlined WrestleMania? Absolutely. WrestleMania 29 was arguably the right time, although it is easy to see why WWE went with Rock/Cena II. Should CM Punk have headlined WrestleMania XXVII? Certainly not. Punk was an upper midcard heel at the time, The Miz was the WWE Champion. Revisionists go back and talk about Punk being the best heel in the company, but those same revisionists forget that he had spent much of the previous year losing to Big Show in a variety of handicap matches.

Punk is right to be frustrated at his lack of 'Mania main event but to rag on The Miz for getting the opportunity showed poor judgment. Love him or hate him, The Miz has arguably had to work harder than most within the WWE machine, overcoming preconceptions and genuine hatred to become a multi-time champion and a credible mainstay.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
