4. The New World Order Helps WCW Overtake The WWF

By far Eric Bischoff's best idea at the helm of WCW, the New World Order storyline completely revolutionised the company. Scott Hall started the trend, shockingly appearing on the May 27, 1996 edition of Nitro. He was quickly followed by Kevin Nash, and the pair joined forces as The Outsiders.

In a genius move, it was never expressly said on-air that Nash and Hall were invading from the WWF. That was the insinuation, but it was never outright said to fans. When The Outsiders added Hulk Hogan to their midst at Bash At The Beach and formed the nWo, WCW started to really fly.

Around a month before the pay-per-view, Nitro beat Raw in the weekly ratings for the June 6 program. That would kick off a run of 84 consecutive weeks of victories, before Raw clawed back and topped Nitro once again.

For Vince McMahon and the WWF loyalists, this must have been unbelievably humbling. Like it or not, the facts state that WCW became the top company in North America for around a year and a half.
