10 Times NXT Was As Dumb As WWE's Main Roster

2. Charlotte Flair's Toxic Second NXT Run

When Vince McMahon got his grubby mitts on NXT following the launch of AEW Dynamite of Wednesday nights, part of his mid-week dabblings came in the form using Charlotte's Royal Rumble victory (which in itself proved contentious) to challenge for Rhea Ripley's NXT Women's Championship.

Isolated, that sounds like a really good idea. Charlotte returns to her old stomping ground, big for her britches, while Ripley explains that this is a different NXT to the one she left years ago. Meanwhile Bianca Belair is getting in the face of both women, also wanting to challenge for the title whilst also defending NXT. The blow-off everyone was expecting was for Rhea to go over Charlotte at WrestleMania, sending her to the moon, whilst Charlotte had a few modern-day dream matches along the way.

In actuality, that didn't quite happen. Charlotte, who already was popping up on damn-near every RAW and SmackDown, had a total of six matches under the NXT banner, including winning the NXT Women's Title at Mania. In the other matches, Charlotte always walked away looking strongest, picking up wins against Belair, Ripley (again), Mia Yim, Io Shirai, only losing via disqualification, and not even getting pinned in the triple threat where she would eventually lose the title at TakeOver: In Your House.
