While many have said Joanie Laurer was an absolute sweetheart during her formative years in WWE, the Ninth Wonder of the World's escalating ego got to a point where it caused plentiful problems for her co-workers.

A genuine game-changer, Chyna's rise to prominence brought with it a change of attitude for the D-Generation X favourite. Once Laurer began to truly mix it up with - and beat - male superstars, she started to believe that she should be challenging for the WWE Title. In fact, there reportedly was even brief talks of putting together a Steve Austin vs. Chyna match at one point. As part of this, that led to Joanie and her DX-influenced stroke refusing to be put in certain positions or against certain wrestlers - and also had her sh*t all over the company's women's division by largely refusing to work with any female grapplers.

Both the male and female rosters knew that Chyna was unsafe, was sloppy and her ego was getting out of control, but those talents also knew that she was untouchable in the eyes of Vince McMahon. That is, of course, until she started demanding a 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin-sized paycheck to re-sign with the company.

Fully aware that Joanie didn't justify an Austin level wedge, and likewise aware of problems from the fallout of the Chyna/Triple H/Stephanie love triangle, WWE opted to let the former Intercontinental Champion's deal expire in 2001.
