10 Times Really Weird Stuff Went Down At WWE's Royal Rumble

10. Drew Carey's Cameo (2001)

"Who the f*ck is Drew Carey?"

That's something literally millions of fans in the UK must have wondered when they tuned into 2001's Royal Rumble on Channel 4. To us Brits, Carey was a portly fellow in a tracksuit who was handed a berth in the 30-man match by Vince McMahon 'cause he couldn't pry his eyes away from Trish Stratus.

Armed with no other context, we then watched as Carey entered the match fifth, witnessed Kane's devastation and then high-tailed it out of the ring. That was it, that was Drew's big celeb cameo. The comedian's Drew Carey Show may have been popular in the States, but that didn't translate to worldwide fame.

The backstory is even weirder. Carey had an All-Star improv pay-per-view of his own to advertise, so WWE agreed to have him appear at the Rumble and promote it. That was fine. Using up a spot in the Rumble when it could've gone to some hard-working wrestler was not.
