10 Times Shane McMahon's Ego Ran Wild In WWE

8. Feuding With Kane

The removal of Kane’s mask was a story seven years in the making. The execution of the angle perhaps wasn’t what it could have been, stymied by some lame makeup and a lack of forward thinking, but in freshening up the character, WWE immediately had a new top monster on their hands. There were so many angles they could have launched with this terrifying, reinvigorated character. It couldn’t have been hotter.

Somewhat bizarrely, one of the first things WWE creative did was to book the big red maskless monster into a multi-PPV angle with the boss’ son. Shane McMahon vs. Kane was triggered by the latter tombstoning Shane’s mother Linda, so there was a certain amount of sense to it, but there were surely more exciting things we could have done with the character.

Instead we were given a couple of gimmick matches, a spot involving Shane’s testicles getting electrocuted, and Kane eventually destroying the kid. The seven foot beast’s dominance over a diminutive non-wrestler did nothing for either character, but served only to dilute the immediate impact of what should have been a huge moment.
