10 Times Shane McMahon's Ego Ran Wild In WWE
7. Six Months Kevin Owen Will Never Get Back
In late 2017, Shane McMahon began a feud with Kevin Owens. This started out alright enough, and fans assumed it would be blown off fairly quickly to allow for an actual professional wrestler to embark on an actual professional wrestling angle.
Then it went on, and on, and on, Multiple pay per views saw the two locking up or otherwise exchanging hostilities. The feud went all the way up to WrestleMania 34 (making this Shane’s third in-ring performance in a row at the company’s biggest event), with McMahon going over.
This would be the end of the feud for any sane booker, as the fans (and probably Kevin Owens) had grown more than tired of the angle. For just over a year, there was peace. Then, the angle resumed, culminating in a match at SummerSlam, i.e the company’s second biggest event.
Owens won, the crowd liked it fine, but boy did this storyline ever stagnate quickly. It’s safe to assume Shane believed he was elevating the status of one of the company’s best workers, and it’s easy to see how he’d think this, but the primary result of this angle was far more Shane McMahon on our TV screens.
