10 Times Shane McMahon's Ego Ran Wild In WWE
3. Best In The World
Trying to figure out who thought this was a good idea, and why, is a fool’s errand. Crown Jewel 2018 was centred around a tournament to crown the Best In The World (said tournament was populated entirely by American wrestlers, but let’s not go there). After a series of perfectly fine heats, it came down to Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler in the final. Two quality workers - what can go wrong?
Well, Miz could (kayfabe) blow his knee out. Following that, Shane McMahon could insert himself into the final of a three-legged tournament, and then beat a 14 year veteran of the company in under three minutes. That’s pretty wrong, alright!
If this was supposed to bring heat on Shane, it didn’t, not in a good way at any rate. Fans knew that they were going to get plenty more of McMahon at his smuggest as a result, which precisely no one tunes in for. It didn’t lead to a good angle, or a comeuppance.
It’s hard to see this in any way other than: Shane McMahon fancied calling himself the Best In The World, and manufactured a tournament in order to make it so.
