Of course, Ricky Hatton wasnt the first boxing star to enter the world of WWE. Way back in March of 1985, at the first ever WrestleMania showcase, the living legend that is Muhammad Ali was made a special guest referee in the main event tag team match, which pitted Hulk Hogan and Mr. T against Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff. As far as star power goes, they dont come much bigger than that match-up. And ultimately it looks like that investment paid offthe contest was voted PWI Match of the Year and WrestleMania went on to become the greatest wrestling spectacular of all time. Alis actual role was fairly limited, but once he did intervene he made an impact. When the match degenerated into an all-out brawl, the former heavyweight champion of the world swung for both Roddy Piper and Cowboy Bob Orton, quickly restoring order. Simple yet effective, the impact that Ali made was huge, paving the way for copious other sports stars after him.
