Of course, no conversation about boxing and wrestling would be complete without the mention of Floyd Mayweather Jr. The undefeated boxing star was signed to a brief deal for WrestleMania XXIV, which saw him take on the Big Show in one of the most high-profile, inter-promotional contests in professional wrestling history. The angle was set in motion when Mayweather attended No Way Out 2008. After a returning Big Show attacked a vulnerable Rey Mysterio, Mayweather jumped the barrier and stormed to the aid of his friend. Moments later, he was fleeing the ring having bloodied Big Shows nose. A Mania showdown was scheduled as a result, which was then made no DQ. More than a mere promotional tactic though, this stipulation proved pivotal to the finish, when Mayweather hit Big Show with brass knuckles. Of course, it seems a little farfetched that The Greatest Fighter in the World would need to use foreign objects to defeat a pro wrestler. But alas, such is life in the WWE.
