10 Times The Main Event Was The Worst Match On A WWE Show

9. The 2015 Royal Rumble Match

The ending of the 2014 Rumble is rightly criticised for WWE putting Batista over at the expense of newer stars, but the majority of the match is a great time. 2015, on the other hand, rehashes the dud ending with a far less enjoyable match preceding it.

It starts off promisingly with fun work nostalgia spots and Bray Wyatt running wild, but from the moment fan favourite Daniel Bryan is eliminated, it goes horribly wrong. The Authority are at their worst here, with Big Show and Kane putting on a lumbering heel performance, dumping out fan favourites like Dolph Ziggler and Dean Ambrose, all in the interest of getting Roman Reigns over.

It doesn’t work, of course, and the Big Dog has his arm lifted to a chorus of boos that The Rock himself can’t abate. Even without the dud ending, this is a Rumble to forget, the opportunity for fun in-ring action set aside in favour of a relentless pursuit of a single story no one was enjoying.

Was it worth it for the incredible ending to WrestleMania 31? Possibly, but tanking the Rumble is about as cardinal a WWE sin as you can get.
