10 Times The Main Event Was The Worst Match On A WWE Show

4. Diesel Vs Mabel (SummerSlam 1995)

A match that was destined for disaster from the off. The plus-sized Mabel was at the tail end of an unexpected push following his King Of The Ring victory; meanwhile, a still-green Diesel was struggling to fulfil his duties as the company’s top guy and titleholder. The two had a date with destiny at summer’s biggest event, and it did not go too well.

While Mabel eked out a lengthy career as a pro wrestler in various personae, he was an exhibit rather than a technician. That’s a polite way of saying he was downright unsafe, landing heavily on Diesel here and later breaking UnderTaker’s orbital bone.

For all his qualities, Kevin Nash was not equipped to carry his opponent through even a sub-10 minute clash. His matches with Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels could achieve greatness, but this was way out of reach in this ill-advised main event.

There’s plenty to like on this card, most notably jobber Barry Horowitz’s big win and the Michaels/Ramon ladder match sequel, but things come crashing to a disappointing finish when the two big boys take to the ring. It’s slow, boring, and doesn’t even have a clean finish.
