10 Times The Wrong Wrestler Won
6. Bobby Roode Over James Storm (Lockdown 2012)
After just one week as TNA World Heavyweight Champion, James Storm was betrayed and bottled by best bud Bobby Roode in a major heel turn. Roode went on to dominate the heavyweight title scene, keeping hold of the title by hook or by crook, no matter the cost. Storm would gradually bounce back from his loss, feuding with and ultimately defeating Kurt Angle and challenging Roode to a rematch at Lockdown in Nashville, Tennessee, Storm’s home state.
A Storm victory was set to be the perfect conclusion to both men’s well received story arcs and a feel good babyface moment for the company. After 20 minutes of high intensity, blood soaked action, Storm superkicked Roode right out of the cage, costing himself the match in the process.
An infuriating finish, Storm hampered his image further by angrily throwing the title away afterwards, looking now both foolish and immature. While Roode continued to succeed and be a focal point of the promotion until his departure, Storm remained trapped in the midcard and never held the world title again. Storm had been an immensely popular character heading into Lockdown and denying both him and the fans an epic conclusion to his title chase irreparably damaged his image in the promotion.
