Fans spent years calling for Chris Benoit to be given a run in the main event, but when he got there they booed him - even though he was on his own turf - at Toronto's SummerSlam 2004.

The benefactor was a young Randy Orton, fighting for the World Hevayweight Championship for the first time as a singles competitor, having won a battle royal for the mantle of number one contender - much to the chagrin of his Evolution leader.

Perhaps the fans just intuitively knew that Orton, by becoming WWE's youngest world champion, would be led inexorably away from the dark side, turning on Triple H in the process.

Of course, they may not have cheered his win so enthusiastically if they had also known how his maiden title reign was going to end.
