10 Times Triple H Was RIDICULOUSLY Selfish At WWE WrestleMania

3. You're Not The Main Event, Brother...

By 2002, Triple H, wrestling's greatest ever politician, was firmly in the office fold - meaning he had the sway to both steer and position his own programmes. He also had the ego to do what was worst for business.

The counterargument is a sound one, not that WWE had not and would never again undermine it: the top prize automatically deserves top billing. This, presumably, is the only reason Chris Jericho Vs. Triple H, at WrestleMania X8, went on last ahead of one of the most important, lucrative, momentous matches in company history: 'Icon Vs. Icon', The RockVs. Hollywood Hogan. Selfish may not be the word - but hubristic is. Imagine thinking you could follow that, even before it happened. HHH Vs. Y2J went 18:41. Rock and Hogan drew more of a reaction in one second of body language. The great irony is that 'Mania X8 was meant to represent Trips' big babyface coming party - but Hogan's self-engineered face turn ruined that and his Undisputed World Champion reign. Hogan dethroned Trips at the very next pay-per-view.

The greater irony is that those two belts meant less than one as the night drew to a close. For once, the Game had been outplayed.
