The Ultimate Warrior received one of the biggest pushes ever in the late 1980s and into the early 1990s. He got to do something that few wrestlers have ever done in wrestling history: he beat Hulk Hogan clean when Hogan was still in his prime. In the build up to Warrior's WrestleMania 6 match with Hulk Hogan in 1990, they really pushed the idea that Hogan was unbeatable. He almost never lost from 1984 to 1990, so people believed it. They also suggested that if anybody could beat him it was Warrior because he was a phenomenal superstar that got crowd reactions that were even louder than Hogan. He was a star on the rise. No doubt about it. After Warrior beat Hogan clean at WrestleMania 6, he was given the chance to be the man. However, Hogan was still there. He was lurking in the shadows. It wasn't easy for Warrior to really emerge from the Hogan shadow with him still around. Warrior was mostly a flop as WWE Champion, so instead of main eventing another WrestleMania, he dropped the WWE Title to Sgt Slaughter at the 1991 Royal Rumble. Once again it was Hogan in the main event, this time winning another WWE Title. It was another instance where McMahon tried to find his next Hogan. For a brief time, Warrior was that guy, but his WWE career really didn't last that long and he failed to live up to the enormous expectations that WWE management had for him.
