10 Times Vince McMahon Backed The Wrong Guy

6. Bobby Lashley

Any time somebody gets booked in multiple matches with Vince McMahon they are clearly somebody that WWE wants to be a huge star. It's one of those things where Vince says in his head that there's nobody better on the roster to put this guy over than him. That's what happened with Bobby Lashley. Lashley's biggest push took place at WrestleMania 23 in 2007 when he represented Donald Trump in a match in a Hair vs. Hair Match against Vince McMahon. Lashley won the match for Trump, which led to McMahon shaving his head. The feud continued for several months after with Lashley wrestling McMahon in three straight PPV matches - twice in handicap match and once in a singles match. He was put over huge in the feud. Despite McMahon's best efforts to help Lashley become a top guy, he never reached the top. While he did get to headline a few PPVs, he never became a WWE or World Champion. The farthest he got was the ECW Title, which really wasn't as prestigious as the others. He was released in February 2008, less than a year after that big WrestleMania 23 match. Lashley has actually done really well in TNA this year. He looks like more of an all around and complete pro wrestler now. He's in his late 30s, so maybe he's somebody we could consider a late bloomer. When he was getting the big push in WWE he was still learning. It showed in his performances.
