10 Times Vince McMahon Got Revenge
3. Fake Razor & Fake Diesel
When Scott Hall and Kevin Nash took their ball and went over to WCW in 1996, they left a couple of person-shaped holes in the WWE's roster. Vince McMahon, however, was not to be perturbed. He owned the Razor Ramon and Diesel characters the two had portrayed, and all he needed to do was put another pair of similar-looking (kind of) men in the right coloured tights to capture their magic again.
The debut of the fake 'Razor Ramon' and 'Diesel', who were instantly recognised by the audience as not being the same guys who just left, can be seen in one of two ways. The first is an ill-judged but genuine attempt to bamboozle the fans.
The second is Vince McMahon pulling the stunt to denigrate Hall and Nash. That Vince didn't fully believe the characters would be accepted is shown by the fact they were brought back by a heel Jim Ross, so the heat for the characters dying a death would be contained in Ross' heel character.
Fake Diesel and Razor ended their careers as comedic jobbers in a role that fully acknowledged how dumb the idea was. They serve now as a historical footnote (not least because Fake Diesel would one day become Kane), and an illustration of what happens when you tick off Vince McMahon.
